Fact-check from JSC CIB: hryvnia issued before 2003 will cease to be a means of payment

Fact-check: according to the NBU announcement, from October 1, 2020, ALL hryvnia banknotes issued before 2003 will cease to be a means of payment. This is caused by the excessive diversity of banknote designs, as well as the physical wear of part of them.

It will be impossible to pay with such banknotes for goods and services from October 1. However, they can be exchanged for new bills within three years.
The same applies to 25 kopeck coins, which will also be withdrawn from circulation on October 1.

Where to exchange:

- during the first year from the date of their withdrawal from circulation – until September 30, 2021 inclusive – at all branches of Ukrainian banks;
- during three years from the date of their withdrawal from circulation – until September 30, 2023 inclusive – at the National Bank and authorized banks (Oschadbank, PrivatBank, Raiffeisen Bank Aval, FUIB).
