The National Bank of Ukraine has launched a new dedicated section titled “For Defenders and Their Families” on the financial literacy website “Garazd”.
The section was created as part of the “Financial Literacy for Defenders of Ukraine” project, which aims to improve the financial knowledge of military personnel, veterans and their families, help them manage their finances effectively, avoid financial risks and build long-term financial security.
The section already features over 80 financial literacy resources. In addition to articles, it contains practical guidance: checklists, step-by-step guides, instructions, financial planning templates, as well as a directory listing useful contacts and online resources.
The materials are grouped into eight thematic sections, including: finances during service, budgeting and savings, banking services, loans and debts, insurance, protection against fraud, and financial guidance for veterans and families of defenders.
The section provides answers to key financial questions, including:
- how to manage personal and family finances effectively whilst on active duty, plan a budget and build up savings;
- how to make use of special banking programmes, credit facilities and insurance services for service personnel and veterans;
- how to manage loans, deposits and other financial obligations, and deal with financial institutions;
- how to protect yourself and your family from fraud, fake fees and loss of access to accounts due to wartime circumstances;
- how veterans and their family members can obtain a grant or preferential financing and start their own business;
- how a family can organise their household budget when a loved one is in the military and maintain financial stability.
The information provided in this section will enable service personnel and veterans to make informed financial decisions at various stages – during service, during the transition period and upon returning to civilian life – and will help maintain the financial stability of families in wartime.
The content of this section will be continuously updated to reflect the current needs of servicemen and their families.
How are the financial education needs of servicemen and their families reflected in this section?
Before launching the new section on the “Garazd” website, the National Bank, together with its partners, conducted a survey to understand educational needs and identify the financial issues of greatest concern to servicemen, veterans and their families. A total of 1,013 respondents took part in the survey, including serving military personnel, veterans and family members of defenders.
The findings of the study formed the basis for a new section on the “Harazd” website. The materials have been adapted to real-life situations and will enable service personnel, veterans and their families to navigate with confidence the financial matters that affect their daily lives and well-being.
