The NBU increased the limit on cash withdrawals in Ukraine from foreign currency accounts and clarified a number of restrictions on cross-border transactions

Dear clients! We inform you that the National Bank of Ukraine has eased and clarified a number of restrictions regarding the carrying out of currency payments. The above changes were made by Resolution No. 58 of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine dated March 21, 2022 "On amendments to Resolution No. 18 of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine dated February 24, 2022".

The National Bank of Ukraine on March 21, 2022 made a number of changes that, in particular, concern the following issues: 

1️⃣ cash foreign currency withdrawals in Ukraine and abroad:
 -the daily limit on cash withdrawals in Ukraine from foreign currency accounts has been increased from UAH 30 thousand to UAH 100 thousand (equivalent). At the same time, it has been clarified that this limit also applies to currency withdrawals abroad from foreign currency accounts opened in Ukrainian banks. The daily limit of UAH 100 thousand on the withdrawal of funds in Ukraine from accounts in the national currency remains in force. Abroad, however, the withdrawal of currency from hryvnia accounts is limited to a limit of UAH 100 thousand per month. 

2️⃣payment of education abroad:
 
The National Bank has allowed without restrictions the transfer of funds for payment of education to the accounts of educational institutions abroad, expanding the list of exceptions to the prohibition on cross-border operations, which also includes expenses related to the death of citizens, treatment in medical institutions, and the transportation of the sick; 

3️⃣ restrictions on quasi cash operations and P2P transfers with the aim of preventing the withdrawal of capital abroad. The National Bank has limited with a total limit of UAH 100 thousand (equivalent) per month: 
- the transfer of funds to individuals' accounts abroad using payment card details of the payer and the recipient (P2P transfers);
- carrying out operations using payment cards for the purchase of assets that are directly converted (exchanged) into monetary funds and belong to quasi cash operations.

 Among such operations: replenishment of electronic wallets, brokerage or forex accounts, payment of traveler's checks, purchase of virtual assets, etc.

 We emphasize that you can pay with cards of Ukrainian banks for goods and services in retail networks and on the Internet without restrictions, both in Ukraine and abroad. 

In addition, the National Bank of Ukraine🏛: 

- expanded the list of exceptions to the prohibition that concerns transfers abroad, currency operations of residents with the fulfillment of obligations that are secured by a state guarantee;

- allowed the purchase of foreign currency on «forward» terms under forward contracts that were concluded before February 23, 2022 (inclusive) with observance of defined conditions.

 At the same time, the official rate of the hryvnia to the US dollar💲 continues to be fixed at the level of February 24, 2022.
