What is the current official rate of the hryvnia to foreign currencies?

On February 24, 2022, the NBU fixed the official rate of the hryvnia to the US dollar at the level of UAH 29.25/$. Rates  to other currencies are set by the NBU daily. Banks' rates may differ from the official NBU rate. 

 

Is it possible to buy cash foreign currency?

The purchase of foreign currency is temporarily prohibited.

Exception – currency can be purchased if available at bank branches located in territories under threat of occupation by the aggressor state. Before visiting the branch, call your bank's hotline and clarify the details about the operation of the branches and the availability of cash.

 

Is it possible to sell cash foreign currency?

Yes, if these are not russian or belarusian rubles. The National Bank has not established any restrictions on the sale of other currencies.

 

Is it possible to transfer foreign currency abroad?

It is permitted to transfer from your own cards to individuals' cards abroad up to UAH 100 thousand equivalent per month. This is, for example, about $3.4 thousand. At the same time, we draw your attention that the corresponding limit applies to operations using payment cards for the purchase of assets that belong to quasi cash operations.

Without restrictions, it is permitted to transfer funds abroad for payment of education and expenses related to the death of citizens, treatment in medical institutions, and the transportation of the sick.

In addition, to facilitate the activity of volunteers, individuals are permitted to transfer foreign currency for the purchase of a number of goods abroad within a monthly limit of UAH 400 thousand equivalent (this is more than $13.5 thousand)

Such goods include body armor, helmets, military and tactical uniforms, military and tactical footwear, protective clothing, optical surveillance devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, sleeping bags, karemats, and means for providing pre-medical aid.

 

Is it possible to withdraw cash from accounts?

UAH 100 thousand – this is the daily limit on cash withdrawals in Ukraine. You can withdraw funds in hryvnia from hryvnia accounts, and from foreign currency accounts – in foreign currency or in hryvnia, after first selling the currency.

Abroad, the same limit on the withdrawal of funds from foreign currency accounts applies. At the same time, the receipt of cash from a hryvnia account is limited to the amount of UAH 100 thousand per month.

 

Are there restrictions on non-cash settlements?

There are no prohibitions. You can pay with cards of Ukrainian banks for goods and services in retail networks and on the Internet without restrictions, both in Ukraine and abroad.
