During the press conference, technologies identical to those that the «EDAPS» consortium implemented for INTERPOL were demonstrated: those present could see with their own eyes the equipment for the registration of biometric data and their recognition.
The use at Commercial Industrial Bank of biometric technologies allowed bringing the security system to a higher level. To the already existing reliable and modern access control system built on contactless pass cards, biometric «innovations» were also added. An employee of the bank who is allowed access to various zones with restricted access undergoes registration of personal data. Only when the data from the pass card and the biometric data of the employee coincide (in this case fingerprints) can he pass into the protected zone. The application of biometric technologies in the banking sphere will allow the Bank to increase the level of protection of client and banking information, to make more convenient the process of client identification, and to bring work with clients to a new technological level, where the client will feel reliability and comfort in relationships with the bank.
«At Commercial Industrial Bank the implementation of one of the most promising innovative technologies has begun – biometric identification of clients and employees, developed by our client – the «EDAPS» consortium. As of today, biometric access identification has already been implemented in the Bank's cash unit, service premises, and information security management premises», - noted Ivan Fediv, Deputy Chair of the Management Board of Commercial Industrial Bank.
Despite the crisis phenomena in the country's economy, the bank did not stop at what was achieved and set new most ambitious goals and tasks for itself. In 2010, the bank one of the first in Ukraine passed certification of compliance with information protection standards PCI DSS of the international payment systems Visa and MasterCard.
During the passing of the audit of information security PCI-DSS, the bank modernized its access control system. At this stage, a decision was made on the implementation of a Biometric Access Control System (BACS).
The main task of the Biometric Access Control System (BACS) — is to prevent the entry into protected premises of persons who have not been granted access in the procedure established by the organization. «This system allows supplementing the «classical» system of access control of personnel passages into protected zones. In addition, the new technology allows avoiding cases when a person enters a protected zone using another person's card. Thus, it can be asserted that the overall level of the bank's protection has grown», - emphasized Dmytro Povesma, Head of the Center of Biometric Technologies of the «EDAPS» consortium.
«We can only positively assess the aspiration of Commercial Industrial Bank to improve its own security system with the help of biometric technologies developed in the «EDAPS» consortium. I would like to emphasize that similar technologies have long and successfully worked for INTERPOL, and Ukraine is fully ready to fulfill the requirements of the European Union regarding the implementation of electronic documents without engaging expensive foreign technologies and companies», - continued Dmytro Povesma.

We plan further on to equip the depository with a similar system, so that the client has truly protected access to a personal safe», - continued Ihor Komarov, Deputy Head of the Security Department of Commercial Industrial Bank.
Compliance with the requirements for the protection of biometric information and proper handling of it is not only an important issue from a technical and legal point of view, but also from a social one.
A key component of the process of operation is the competence and qualification of personnel. The management of Commercial Industrial Bank and the system's operators underwent training at the Center of Biometric Technologies of the «EDAPS» consortium on the rules of handling biometric data.
The biometric access control system installed at Commercial Industrial Bank fully complies with the requirements of normative documents; all legal and technical procedures prescribed by legislation and international standards in the field of information protection have been and are being observed.
Taking into account that the NBU is conducting a policy of strengthening of information security measures, and offers banks to implement information security systems according to the international standards ISO27001 and ISO27002, the implementation of biometric ACS is essentially an investment in the future, and allows us to keep pace with the times, and, perhaps, even ahead.
During the press conference, representatives of Commercial Industrial Bank shared their successes.
