On July 1-2, the sixth International Conference «HOLOEXPO-2009. Holography. Science and Practice» was held in Kyiv, with the Ukrainian Specialized Enterprise «Holography» (a member of the «EDAPS» Consortium) acting as one of the organizers and sponsors.
For the previous five years, the event was held in Russia; however, this year one of the conference organizers — the Russian company «Holography Service» — proposed to hold the scientific and practical conference in Kyiv.
The conference was attended by representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, Italy, the USA, and others: from theoretical scientists to manufacturers and marketers. The event participants assured that a very useful exchange of opinions takes place here.

At the conference, Andriy Tymoshenko, together with the head of the optical department of SP «Holography» Andriy Ivanovsky, delivered a presentation on the use of spectral marks for the identification of holograms. A presentation on the specifics of using high-resolution holographic demetallization for the protection of banknotes was made by the leading specialist of SP «Holography» Igor Tverdokhleb.
Conference participants noted that, unlike in Ukraine and Russia, in other European countries and in the USA the application of holograms as a security element for various commercial goods is well developed. In the CIS, this method of product protection is only beginning to gain popularity.
The state segment of the market is more developed: the governments of many CIS countries were able to appreciate the benefits of using protective holographic elements faster than commercial entities. In turn, scientists and engineers develop and offer the state modern and innovative methods of protection. A telling example is the introduction in Ukraine last summer of a new sample of excise duty stamps for alcohol and tobacco. These stamps use qualitatively new holographic protective elements (HPE). Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Specialized Enterprise «Holography» participated in their development. The new HPEs with special hidden marks, manufactured by SP «Holography», make excise stamps (manufactured at SE «PC «Ukraine») more secure, so that they cannot be counterfeited. The authenticity of such a hologram can easily be verified using the miniature device «Spectrometer». The device is also a development of SP «Holography». The introduction of new excise stamps brought the country an immediate economic effect. Deductions from excise duty payments (excluding VAT and profit tax) on alcohol and tobacco alone additionally grew by UAH 100 million per month.
In addition, SP «Holography» is known for another cutting-edge development — demetallization of ultra-high resolution holograms. In early 2008, SP «Holography» presented a new hologram demetallization technology. The Ukrainian enterprise's technology, in terms of resolution capability, exceeded the Swiss analogue (the «zero.zero» technology) by several times, which is considered one of the most advanced in the world.
As reported by the media, many experts at the exhibition confirmed that the Ukrainian SP «Holography» is the most technologically advanced enterprise in the post-Soviet space and is among the top five world leaders, both in terms of production volumes and the level of applied technologies.
