Today, October 10, humanity observes World Mental Health Day. Mental health is not only about people who suffer from mental illnesses. It is about emotional and professional burnout, about constant stress and conflicts at work and at home. Finally, it is about one of the highest levels of suicide in Europe: more than 6 thousand cases in 2020. Mental disorders do not know differences by gender, age, education, or material condition: anyone is in the risk zone.
They say that recognizing the problem is the first step to solving it. But in a significant part of society, denial and stigmatization prevail. The irrational feeling of fear of the unknown leads to the fact that society tries not to notice the problems of the mental state of Ukrainians. People who need help find it difficult to talk about their feelings, and society, due to the lack of knowledge and false stereotypes, finds it difficult to hear and understand such people.
I know that mental health is not a simple, and, perhaps, not a very «hyped» topic, so business often bypasses it in its social responsibility programs. But I also realize that the mission of every leader is to take responsibility and embody what our society needs. Thanks to the persistent and professional work of our entire team and the trust of our British shareholder, over recent years we have become a powerful financial institution that is in the TOP-30 Ukrainian banks. And, therefore, we have appropriate capabilities for the implementation of corporate social responsibility programs and, of course, we will use these capabilities to highlight this painful problem.
That is why today, on World Mental Health Day, I am initiating at ComInBank the implementation of the corporate social responsibility program «Mental Health». In simple language: I personally and the entire Bank team will make maximum efforts to support the mental health of Ukrainians. We have planned a number of events aimed at drawing attention to this problem. And, of course, we will begin with ourselves, with the creation of comfortable working conditions for our team, the prevention of professional and emotional burnout. Follow the posts on the website and the Bank's official social media pages and join our events. I am sure that with joint efforts we will manage to change the situation in this complex and important area.
Sincerely yours
Tetiana Putintseva
